I’m usually not one to make testimonials, but in my quest to cut down on single-use plastics, I happened upon a fantastic shampoo last year that had me wondering, “why aren’t all shampoos like this?!”
I had only recently heard of bar shampoos, so when it came time to restock my shower, I searched in the personal care aisle of my local Whole Foods to see if they carried any. There I discovered bar shampoos from Three Sisters Apothecary, a small outfit out of Sonoma, just 40 miles away.

The Lavender Tea Tree is proving to be equally terrific.
Oh my, I LOVE this shampoo! The soap surprised me in a number of ways. First, it does its job. With just a few swipes across my head, the shampoo creates an ample lather. It smells heavenly, and more importantly, my hair is left clean and feeling soft, with no residue.
And this shampoo is insanely economical. I bought my first bar in September, and six months passed before needing to purchase another. In that time, I estimate that I diverted three plastic shampoo bottles from making their way to my recycling bin. I haven’t tried their other products yet, but I’m looking forward to purchasing their tin of body butter and some shaving lotion for my husband.
Is there a staple product that you’ve discovered that traditionally comes packaged in plastic, but is made with a mind toward reducing waste? I’d love to hear it!
